The world’s largest transformer box, Krafttanken, is located in downtown Ludvika. Krafttanken is not only a landmark that demonstrates that Ludvika, together with Hitachi Energy, is a world leader in high technology and power transmission. It also plays a role in supplying electricity to critical infrastructure during a crisis, thanks to its battery storage system filled with fossil-free energy.

The power plant and battery storage facility are currently owned by VB Kraft.
The regional development company Samarkand2015 led the project in which the energy storage system was developed. The power tank is currently being used in research projects:
the COLA project , which focuses on cybersecurity in power grids.
Innovative Energy Resilience which aims to develop solutions that strengthen society’s resilience during power outages and promote fossil-free preparedness.
